My formula for weekend bliss

September 1, 2008

You know that special time on a weekend morning, when you have time to yourself to do the thing you have dreamt of doing all week, over a coffee……you know what I’m talking about.

My favourite pastime is a very simple formulaic equation:good coffee + good newspaper = short term bliss.

Strong espresso with a good crema and fine journalism. Where can you get that these days?

Well it looks like the coffee has improved, or am i judging this by the cups, i remember it was a bit of a adventure asking for a cup of coffee 20 years ago, this was a good thing as all that was on offer back in NZ was instant coffee out of a can. What you got served in Asia was stewed coffee which was strained through stockings, then poured into your cup which had condensed milk in the bottom for either if you wanted milk or sugar, (never any milk about) it was up to you at how much you stirred as to how milky or how sweet you wanted things…..wonderful and very addictive.

Ewwwww yuck! I’m glad I didn’t go then. Yes the coffee has improved. In fact there are some terrific cafes owned by Cambodians in Siem Reap and Phonm Phen.
Where’s your fav cafe these days in Queenstown?
    Stay in touch girl!

Well some have gone out of flavour as you need to get there early to get a dash seat and thats not the point of having a relaxing coffee! it usually involves a motorbike ride which means Glenorchy Cafe, Grind out at Frankton Industrial as no tourist can find it. I have developed a liking to good plunger coffee which is getting away from the coffee scene….yes im still a strange one!
