If it weren’t for Angelina….

September 5, 2008
Ta Phrom would probably be a well kept secret amongst a handful of intrepid travellers. I am grateful for Angelina.
Ta Phrom is an ancient temple you could best describe as, ruined. It doesn’t have the size and majesty of Angkor Wat, or the faces of Bayan. Instead, if you can picture this, it has endless thresholds, tumbling lichen rich walls, and strangling fig trees. And endless passageways. From your first step over the entrance threshold, you get this feeling that you have entered into a secret. A secret chamber.
Almost like Harry Potter’s secret chamber minus the wizards. But still very much magical.

If I had just 2 words to describe Ta Phrom they would be: stone and moss

Other people would likely say strangling trees: silk cotton and fig

And then other people would say “hell no!” Angelina and Tombraider!!! Ahhhh I hear you say…thats who I’m talking about.

Ta Phrom is a temple with a gift. It can make you go “wow” from the inside and you don’t know you’re doing it. Best visited in the early morning when the air is calm and cool (ish), the humidity low and the visitors zero.
