Much more than just a teashop

September 29, 2008

In a narrow arcade off the main shopping street in Wellington (New Zealand), there is a teashop -small in size but big in colour – orange. This shop boasts an extensive range of teas in New Zealand and goes by the name TleafT – a name which says it all.

TleafT stocks tea from all over the tea drinking realm: black, green, oolong, white, rooibos fruit, herbal blends, all colorfully packaged and stacked on walls ready to take home. And if you want to sample some of the leaves and blends before buying or just want to share in the tea experience, there are jars available ready to be smelt, sipped and mulled over. Of course in a shop such as this you can get advice by experts who share a common love – a love for the tea leaf.

Carefully displayed in small nooks and crannies are stacks and rows of glasses, silver tea goblets and ornately glazed cups. Tea pots are lined up on wooden shelves going by rank and size – Roji cast iron pots from Japan, stainless steel and ceramic pots from Europe. A true tea party.

TleafT has an online shop for tea lovers and a menu packed solid with tea  blends. I lost count at 50. A couple of blends that sound good to try are Strawberries and Cream -a blend of strawberry pieces and leaves; and Tokyo Lime -lime, lemon, sencha, with sunflower petals, blue mallow blossoms, chamomile flowers and rose petals…yum! If you are in Wellington there are two shops in the area: Manners Street, Midland Park.

So tea lovers, check out the site and give me your thoughts and comments. Let me know if they ship overseas and the freight cost.

TleafT is the perfect shop for tea lovers. Such a range of teas and fresh as well. Wonder if they can ship to the states?
