Valuing our World Oceans – June 8

June 8, 2010

June 8 is the designated day where the world pays tribute to its oceans. Even the UN has sanctioned this day as a special day, a day to value the oceans – all of them — and to say:  “Thanks for being patient.”

On behalf of people who aren’t aware of today, I’d like to thank the Oceans for putting up with us humans.

For letting us sail on your waters, fish from them, cruise on them, fight on them and invade from them. For letting photographers capture beautiful moments, scientists study from them, and holiday makers recreate in them.

There have been times when our antics have tested your patience, unleashing your fury through tsunamis, hurricanes and storms. And, there have been times when as humans we have become too greedy in our material lifestyles, we have plundered your bounties and your bed, only to pollute your home, and leave your limited supplies empty.

So take a bow Oceans of this world, and to those groups who fight to save you, June 8 is your day to shine.

In my small world I’ve nominated everyday as a World Ocean Day, because these precious waters are too valuable to lose.

Isn’t that really heartbreaking knowing that forests, waters (ocean) are destroyed? what else would there be for our next generation? how long would this Earth still survive?
    Thank you for your post

Hi Lulu, going by what you write on the Orangutans and what’s happening in the oceans, it makes you wonder if the earth can put up with it for much longer.

What a great post. Those pictures are gorgeous. It’s too bad we’re dealing with the oil spill in the gulf right now…not exactly a great way to thank the oceans!

True Michah not a way to celebrate what should be a festive day. More like a day of commemorating.
